Vindication

At the hospital, Kim and I were thrilled at how well Oly took to breastfeeding. It was much, much easier than it was with Murrow. However, one of the nursery nurses and the doctor on call started getting really uptight that she wasn’t eating enough…it even came down to a threat that they might not let her leave the hospital…getting extremely pushy trying to get us to supplement with formula. Drama ensued, with the final result being that we didn’t supplement and they let us go home as long as we came in for a checkup early this week.

Today was the vindication. Usually babies regain their birth weight in 10 days to 2 weeks, however a week after birth Oly is now 7 lbs 12 ozs…a full 5 ozs over birth weight.

Suck it Houston doctors.

Family photo time

Before Oma heads off to Vegas, we took the opportunity to get some family photos. We had to trick Murrow into looking at the camera or smiling (look there’s a squirrel on Oma’s head!!!), but thankfully Olympia is still pretty easy to pose.

First tummy time

Turns out that Oly is crazy-buff for her age. Its hard to tell in these photos, but she was lifting her head and doing push-ups…she even attempted a one handed push up, which only resulted in her first turn-over (off the pillow).

Last days of Oma’s visit

Oma’s visit is coming to a close, we’ll miss her dearly…with her compulsive cleaning and her willingness to wake up early with Murrow. She’s also nicely quick with the camera.

Playing dress up

Kim and I both agree that boys clothes are pretty boring. Neither of us is a huge fan of pink, but we love the possibilities for dresses, bloomers, booties, etc. So before Oly was born Kim made a bunch of cute kimono dresses, which we finally got to try on her.

Heading home

It just seems silly to have something this small barreling down the roads.

Last day at the hospital

When Murrow was born, Kim and I could’ve stayed at the hospital for weeks. Chocolate shakes delivered at all hours, relatively stable wifi, comfy beds, cable tv, and all the diapers Murrow could fill.

However, not being able to see Murrow, hyper-anal nurses, no internet, and no chocolate shakes made it so for Oly we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Our doctor was great (thx Dr. Baird) but overall we just wanted to be home.
